Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Council 4160 was formed in 1940. The council is part of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Doylestown, PA. Our mission is to advance the principles of Unity, Charity, and Fraternity by serving the needs of our parish and our surrounding communities.

We partner with civic organizations, charities, humanitarian groups, religious service teams, and others to make our communities stronger. Council 4160 activities and events encompass working to raise money to support causes that aid individuals and families that need a hand, and to offer our time and talents to support those organizations in need of manpower.
The devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has its roots in the tradition of the Carmelite Order, a Catholic religious order that traces its origin to Mount Carmel in Israel.
According to tradition, the Carmelite Order was founded on Mount Carmel in the 12th century by a group of hermits who dedicated themselves to a life of prayer and contemplation. These hermits, inspired by the prophet Elijah, built a chapel in honor of the Virgin Mary on Mount Carmel.
The title “Our Lady of Mount Carmel” is associated with an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Simon Stock, who was the prior general of the Carmelite Order in the 13th century. The most well-known version of the story relates that, on July 16, 1251, Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock and presented him with the Brown Scapular, a small garment worn by Carmelites as a sign of their devotion and consecration to Mary.
During the apparition, Mary promised special graces and protection to those who faithfully wore the Brown Scapular. The scapular became a symbol of the Carmelite Order and a popular sacramental among Catholics worldwide.
The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated on July 16th each year, commemorating the apparition to St. Simon Stock. Devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has spread throughout the Catholic Church, and many people continue to wear the Brown Scapular as a sign of their commitment to Mary and their desire to follow Christ more closely.
